Originally a chapel for the Filipino-Chinese community, it was elevated to a parish in 1980 and sits along the banks of the Pasig River.
It is affectionately known as the "Doting Mother of Mandaluyong" and serves as a mission center for the Mission Society of the Philippines.
The parish is famous for its historic fluvial processions where the image is brought along the river to meet its sister images from Manila and Marikina
