Originally a small chapel built in 1951 inside the Welfareville Compound, it was formally elevated to a parish in 1979 by Cardinal Jaime Sin.
The image of the Sacred Heart was originally brought to the grounds by Benedictine Sisters in 1943 to protect children during the war.
It is recognized for its historical struggle for land ownership, eventually being ruled as the "House of God" by the court in 1966.
