It is one of Malabon's three best-known churches, dating back to Spanish.
According to the historical marker installed by the National Historical Institute, the church was founded in 1607 by the Augustinian Priests as a Visita in Hacienda Tambobong (now Malabon City) under the patronage of La Purisima.
